Denmark sets up new tax framework

Denmark’s political parties have come to a majority agreement regarding amendments to the nations gambling laws. The changes will see Denmark change the period of duty payments for online betting and casino operators from weekly to monthly periods.

Licensed online gambling operators will be expected to file tax duty’s by the 15th of each month directly with the Danish Gambling Authority. The measures have been put in place in order to lower the administrative duties of licensed operators

Denmark will further adjust its licence fees to reflect approved online operators scale and revenues, however the Danish Gambling Authority did not publish exact figures of fees.

The amendments to its current laws will also affect land based gambling operations, as the Danish Gambling Authority stated that it would target gaming arcades with tampered slots and gaming machines.

In 2014 the Danish Tax Authority (SKAT) conducted a number of inspections of gaming machine arcades and found irregularities at about half of the inspected gaming machine arcades.

Denmark’s online and land based gambling framework had come under scrutiny from the European Union in 2014, labelling the framework as monopolisitc

The new draft laws will be published on the Danish Gambling Authority’s website by the end of January.
