Judge Shipp was meant to have published opinion on New Jersey’s proposal to allow sports betting in licenced gambling venues (casinos and racetracks) on Monday. However a statement published by the US District stated that Judge Shipp would hear opening oral arguments on 31 October.
Last Thursday the New Jersey Assembly voted unanimously in favour of allowing sports betting in licensed state gambling venues.
The advancement of the sports betting legislation by the Assembly’s Committee of Tourism and Gaming will see New Jersey state repeal/bypass federal laws set by the laws passed by the Professional & Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
New Jersey actions to allow sports betting have been objected by an association of the four professional sports leagues of the USA (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) and the NCAA, who last month issued a federal court challenge against New Jersey and its supporting senators.
Both representative sides have not commented on the extension of the sports betting appeal
