PartyPoker to halt withdrawal fees, partners paysafecard

PartyPoker, the online poker brand of bwin.party, has announced that players withdrawing funds via most banking options will no longer face processing fees.

Customers withdrawing funds via popular banking methods such as Mastercard, Visa and PayPal were previously faced with processing fees.

However, writing on the PartyPoker blog, director of games Golan Shaked said that after listening to feedback from players, the operator will halt these fees.

“When we started our ‘Poker for the People’ campaign, withdrawal fees and our loyalty store were the two hottest topics raised at our live player forums,” Shaked said.

“Our poker team has been working hard and we’re really pleased to have addressed these two issues, but there’s still work to be done.

“We want to be the online poker site that champions what players want and we’re up for the challenge of making our players’ experience the best it can be.

“We are now looking at ways to eliminate withdrawal fees from the small number of payment processors who currently charge a premium for their services.”

Meanwhile, PartyPoker has also confirmed that paysafecard is to replace rival Ukash as the online payment provider for the brand.

As reported by iGaming Business, last month it was confirmed that the Ukash brand was to be replaced by paysafecard on a wider scale following its takeover by Skrill.

As of August 31, paysafecard will begin offering its services via PartyPoker, with Ukash customers able to redeem any remaining vouchers until October 31.

Udo Müller, chief executive of paysafecard said in a statement: “The acquisition of Ukash has given us the opportunity to expand the choice for consumers wanting to make secure online payments.

Betfair signs European Betting partnership with Arsenal FC

Αν και δεν δόθηκαν στην δημοσιότητα οι λεπτομέρειες της συμφωνίας, το αρχικό κόστος της εξαγοράς ανέρχεται στα 59 εκατομμύρια ευρώ, το οποίο και θα εξοφληθεί με μετρητά, ενώ υπάρχει συμφωνία για την καταβολή ακόμη 20 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ σε περίπτωση που καλυφθούν οι προσυμφωνημένοι στόχοι μέχρι τον Ιούλιο του 2016.  Η υπάρχουσα διοίκηση της iGaming Holdings και το προσωπικό της, θα παραμείνουν κανονικά στις θέσεις τους, υπό την εποπτεία όμως των ανθρώπων της Unibet και με βασική προϋπόθεση να τρέξουν το επιχειρηματικό πλάνο της εταιρίας και να επιτύχουν τους στόχους της για τα επόμενα τρία χρόνια.

Bet365, BetConstruct win Malta licenses; German taxman targets Malta firms

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has awarded online sports betting licenses to Bet365 and Betconstruct.

On Monday, the MGA announced it had awarded a Class 2 remote gaming license to the Maltese subsidiary of the Stoke-based Bet365. A Bet365 spokesman said the company decided to add a MGA license to its existing Gibraltar license “in order to obtain and maintain certain regulatory approvals as well as support its operations in the evolving global regulatory environment.”

At the same time, the MGA announced that gambling tech provider BetConstruct had been issued a Class 4 remote gaming license covering sports betting services and provisions. BetConstruct CEO Vahe Baloulian said the new diploma would ‘further enhance our ability to serve existing and future partners, including those wishing to operate under the white label arrangement.”

GERMAN TAXMAN TELLS MALTA OPERATORS TO MAKE WITH THE MONEY

Meanwhile, Malta-licensed online gambling sites are increasingly coming under the microscope of Germany’s tax authorities. Late last month, German attorney Joerg Hofmann told attendees at a local gaming seminar that a number of Malta-based iGaming firms had received letters from the German taxman seeking details about their German-facing operations.

According to Hofmann, German tax authorities believe Malta-licensed sportsbooks are required to pay value added tax as well as 5% sports betting turnover tax on their German-market revenue, regardless of whether or not they were among the 20 recipients of a German federal sports betting license. Germany’s muddled online gambling laws may be headed for a European Commission smackdown, but Hofmann says that “if [operators] are active in the German market, they should try to be as compliant as possible.”

Hofmann urged operators with undeclared taxes “to solve this matter very quickly” via a “so-called self-denunciation” to Germany’s taxman. Failure to reveal the full extent of their German operations exposes these operators’ top execs to potential criminal prosecution, which carries the threat of serious fines that can be enforced across the European Union.

Hofmann had no explanation as to why Germany appeared to be singling Malta out for special scrutiny, but warned that other online licensing jurisdictions could be next to face the taxman’s wrath.

This past January, a Munich court convicted a local gambler for playing blackjack with an unidentified Malta-licensed online casino site. Since that ruling, several Malta-licensed operators have withdrawn services from the German market, including Mansion and Guts.com.

Gambling Kingpin Wang Bo Deported Back to China

Wang Bo suspected of involvement in a series of large transnational network gambling cases.

Escorted through the Guangdong airport by two burly plain clothes Chinese police officers, the fugitive Chinese online gambling chief Wang Bo has arrived back in China after being deported by the Philippines Secretary for Justice last Thursday (see previous reports).

Chinese media report that Wang Bo is suspected of involvement in a series of large transnational network gambling cases, including the Sky Asia online gambling network.

Readers may recall that Wang Bo has reportedly spent large amounts of money trying to stay in the Philippines, where he was detained on the request of Chinese diplomats seeking his extradition.

In the process he triggered a corruption enquiry involving at least two senior Bureau of Immigration officials and several politicians.

All that came to an end last week when the Philippines Secretary for Justice signed a summary deportation order and handed Wang Bo over to Chinese officials.

The Chinese media reports indicate that in February 2015, Heilongjiang police received reports that a large group of people in local communities were involved in an online gambling activity named "Big Fortune 888".

After a preliminary investigation, police found that "Big Fortune 888" was accessible at over 30 websites, such as "Sky Asia," which itself has a cash flow of "hundreds of billions" of yuan.

Through examining bank cards used at the websites and following the money trail, Heilongjiang police investigators found that the major "Big Fortune 888" website was established in the Philippines in 2002. The site used online payment platforms to support gambling activities and, investigators claim, money laundering.

That led to a joint task force of five police officers travelling to the Philippines on four occasions, collecting evidence and assembling a case with the support of local police in the Philippines and the Chinese Embassy to the Philippines.

The task force uncovered a number of online gambling sites targeting Chinese players, including "BET8" and "Millennium."

About 15 companies providing payment services to "Big Fortune 888" were also shut down.

Later in February, Wang Bo, reportedly the "money man" for Sky Asia, was detained by local police at a Philippines airport; subsequently released under questionable circumstances, and then rearrested.

It was the start of his long fight to avoid extradition back to China.

He will now face charges in a Chinese court at a date still to be advised.

Double Taxation Leads to Ladbrokes First Half Year Slump: Results Released

Investors are cringing ahead of UK bookmaker Ladbrokes release of first year financials Tuesday.

The betting giant has already warned that its revenues were flat at £588.8 million.

Not only did punters perform favorably during the first half of 2015, Ladbrokes and a number of its competitors were also hit by Chancellor George Osborne’s tax raids in December and March.

Osborne introduced a "point of consumption tax" this past December whereby bets placed in Great Britain are now subject to a 15 per cent levy.  An amendment in the March budget increased the tax on fixed-odds betting terminals, often referred to the "crack cocaine of gambling".

Ladbrokes telephone wagering the first half of this year also witnessed a slump.

The interim dividend has been cut from 4.3p to 1p a share. CEO Jim Mullen is also looking to cut up to £7 million in annual operating costs.

Ladbrokes is in the midst of a £2.3 billion takeover of rival Gala Coral.

Εγκρίθηκε η εξαγορά της Skrill από την Optimal Payments

Το πράσινο φως έδωσε η Βρετανική Αρχή Οικονομική Συμπεριφοράς (FCA) στην Optimal Payments, προκειμένου να προχωρήσει στην ολοκλήρωση της εξαγοράς του ηλεκτρονικού πορτοφολιού της Skrill. Το κόστος της εξαγοράς ανέρχεται στα 1.2 εκατομμύρια ευρώ και ένα μέρος των απαιτούμενων κεφαλαίων θα καλυφθεί με μετρητά (620 εκατ. ευρώ), ενώ το υπόλοιπο ποσό θα καλυφθεί από δάνεια και διευκολύνσεις που θα παρέχουν η Τράπεζα του Μόντρεαλ, η Barlclays Bank και η Deutche Bank. Οι διεργασίες για την ολοκλήρωση της εξαγοράς αναμένεται να ολοκληρωθούν το αργότερο μέχρι τις 10 Αυγούστου, ενώ σύμφωνα με ανακοίνωση της Optimal Payments, με την εξαγορά της Skrill δημιουργούνται οι απαραίτητες προϋποθέσεις ώστε να ενταχθεί το συντομότερο δυνατό στον δείκτη FTSE 250 του χρηματιστηρίου του Λονδίνου.

Με την εξαγορά αυτή, η Optimal Payments κάνει ένα σημαντικό βήμα προς την ολοκλήρωση του στρατηγικού της πλάνου για την ενοποίηση στον τομέα των ηλεκτρονικών πληρωμών. Η Optimal Payments είναι η ιδιοκτήτρια εταιρία της Netteler, πριν δύο χρόνια είχε εξαγοράσει την Paysafecard, ενώ από τον περασμένο Νοέμβριο έχει στην κατοχή της και την προπληρωμένη κάρτα Ukash.
